This past week I had the privilege of counseling at our district youth camp.
Here is the list of things I learned:
Sleep is overrated.
Illinois teenagers know how to worship.
Girls playing “Steal the Bacon” can be brutal! It’s not a real game unless there’s blood….even for the girls…and I have battle wound to prove it.
Freedom– some live in a backyard freedom. This is like the dog who is allowed out in the fenced yard to run “free” but is limited by boundaries. Some live in a front yard chained freedom. You know, the dog who is chained and likes to bark at everyone going by but when they try to chase something, the chain jerks them back as soon as it is stretched to the limit. But God doesn’t intend for any of us to live like this. He desires to give a real freedom…no chains…no bounds…limitless through His Son’s sacrifice.
To be a giant for God, lessons from David– Be faithful in the small things (or the seemingly small things).
Face off before ripping a face off- DO SOMETHING! Most battles are never won because they are never fought.
Be yourself- all God wants from you is for you to be you. You + God is always the majority!
Don’t settle for knock down. Go for the head! – after Goliath was dead (you’ve gone to the altar and been forgiven), David chopped off his head! So delete the site from your history and browser; change the way you talk; get rid of the magazines.
Be a light that shines bright because, not only are you plugged in but you are switched on!
If you have the audacity to ask, God has the ability to answer.
Teenagers who have been challenged become hungry and know what it means to go after God full force.
Elbow licking, Nosing and Tree Star make fun games…sort of.
And last but not least…….CHAINS CAN BREAK.
