I was driving along the road the other day and was struck by the beauty and diversity of the creation of God. Blue sky with fluffy clouds, groundhog crawling along the ground, birds in the sky, bright green trees, farmer’s fields in early growth and yet I am the only one created to have a relationship with God. Out of all creation, it is us that He longs to hear from and see and be a part. How often do we think of that? How often do we remember that our purpose is to commune with Him and love Him and lavish praise upon Him?
I think of the song by Chris Tomlin that says, “You made the world and saw that it was good. You sent Your only son for You are good. What a wonderful maker. What a wonderful Savior. How majestic Your whisper. How humble Your love.” Or how about, “Before the rocks cry out, I just have to praise Him!”, and I want to run screaming about His goodness!
And then I was reminded that if we don’t, the rocks will cry out. ROCKS!?!? Pieces of stone. Inanimate objects. Paperweights. Dirt! It will all cry out His praises if I don’t! I can’t live with that. I can’t justify any reason to not cry out myself. “Ain’t no rock gonna praise in my place! As long as I’m alive to glorify I’ll praise His name!”
Father, I love You and before a stone tells You, I want to make it known! You are my provider. You are my defender! You are my source of all I could ever need! Help me to never neglect or miss a moment to pour out my love or You. And as I do, draw ever closer to me and help me to see more and more the many ways to love You.
